7A Language trip to Dublin
During the fourth week of the school year all the language trips in our school took place and so we went to Dublin/Ireland, a trip we had long been looking forward to. When we arrived, our host families picked us up and we had a lovely dinner together.
On Monday we had our first lessons in “The Horner School of English” with our teacher Furgel, who was very sympathetic and always good for a laugh. We tried out new methods of studying, which we enjoyed a lot.
The host families acommodated two students each. They were very caring, friendly and hospitable people and at least once a day they prepared a tasty meal for us.
In the afternoons we engaged in many different activities. From a guided city tour to a hike along the cliffs of Howth. We even saw some seals in the harbour of Howth!
On Saturday we went on a day trip to Glendalough Valley and Kilkenny, which was extraordinary, because these two places were so different from each other. It was, undoubtedly, the best day we spent in Ireland. In Glendalough Valley we were guided through the ruins of the monastery and afterwards we took a walk in the woods where we witnessed a deer trying to steal a sandwich from one of our classmates. Even though it was raining from time to time we had a great day and saw some beautiful landscapes. We spent the afternoon in Kilkenny, a charming town with 26 512 inhabitants and an impressive castle, churches, nice cafés and a few little shops. We combined sightseeing with shopping, which was big fun. Our highlight of the day was when some of us went to “CAKEFACE” a marvellous bakery with the most delicious pastry in the whole world!
All in all, we can say that our English skills have improved and, even more importantly, our class gained a lot of extra team spirit. Given the opportunity, we would immediately jump at the chance to take a trip to Dublin again! While writing this text, all the memories of the good time we had and the wonderful experiences we gained kept coming back.
